One could be bouncing its way to you…
This catalogue celebrates SC’s first birthday and the fact that, like any baby, it has spent lots of time bouncing around, and in this case bouncing back. Created by Mark Benham of Shout Design, the catalogue is unconventional but stylish, taking the form of a postcard book with detachable, usable postcards. It includes images of exhibitions but also visual interventions and comments – you may have seen some of the photography going on around town.
Highlights in the catalogue include documentation of [identity], the exhibition South Central hosted for FAB (Fringe Arts Bath); and new work commissioned in 2006 from Bath and Bristol artists Holly Bennett, Kate Parsons and Richard Brown, respectively: ‘Escapology’, an installation of 2D but curiously lifelike figures; ‘Consumption 24/7’, a video installation showing a leeches’ feeding frenzy; and ‘Venus in Furs’, a sculptural comment on Bath’s Roman and Georgian heritage.

South Central is looking for novel ways to support its innovative programme of exhibitions and events and the production of a catalogue of its activities over its first year of operation. Help us revive the patronage tradition in a new and playful way – you'll be donating to a cause and collaborating in a piece of art work, as well as getting a miniature footnote in contemporary art history.
